Sacramento READS! Literacy by Third Grade Campaign is all about ensuring that more children in the City of Sacramento are reading at grade level by the end of third grade.

As part of this campaign, Sacramento READS! established tutoring programs that were launched at nine schools in this first year.

Thursday Sacramento READS! invited its tutoring program's volunteer coordinators, tutors and students to attend a celebration honoring their achievements this year.

News10 has it's own reading initiative called Reading Connects.  As part of our campaign and in partnership with Sacramento READS!, News10 adopted Jefferson Elementary School in Natomas, and many News10 employees volunteered weekly in the literacy tutoring program.

Thursday's celebration at Fairytale Town was kicked off with inspirational words from Sacramento READS! Campaign Director, Nikolas Howard and then followed up with applause for the kids and volunteer coordinators and tutors, who committed their time and effort towards improving literacy in Sacramento.
