River Cats open 2012 playoffs Wednesday night at Raley Field

River Cats righty Bruce Billings (7-6, 3.98 ERA) will take on the Reno Aces’ Trevor Bauer (5-1, 2.85 ERA) in Wednesday’s 7:05 p.m. postseason opener at Raley Field, as Sacramento begins its 11th playoff run in 13 seasons. The Cats have won four Pacific Coast League titles and two Triple-A National Championships since coming to the River City in 2000.

Sacramento recently clinched its record sixth-straight division title, a feat unmatched in the 110-year history of the Pacific Coast League. Since the turn of the century, no other professional sports franchise has won as many division titles as the River Cats.

The Cats will open the first round of the playoffs at Raley Field on Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Thursday, Sept. 6 with 7:05 p.m. start times.

U.S. women’s soccer team with golden shot at redemption

LONDON – Abby Wambach isn't worried about being punched in the face again. Likewise, Carli Lloyd is pretty sure she won't have her head stomped.

In contrast with their physical experiences in five consecutive victories in this tournament, the U.S. women say they know what they'll get from Japan in Thursday's gold medal soccer match.

If not victory, respect.

The teams put their shared admiration on a pedestal Wednesday, spontaneously embracing for a photo opportunity after the news conference for the Japanese team ended.

"Our teams respect each other so much," Wambach said, explaining that inferior opponents have made the U.S. Olympic run a difficult one with dangerous play. "The Japanese team is so good, and we are so good, that it's going to be all about the soccer. And that's what's going to be so awesome about tomorrow night."

And the Winners are...

And the Winners are...

News10 My Neighborhood ran a week-long sweepstakes contest last week.

We asked our vusers to submit their definition of HOOPLA, and when they did, their names were automatically submitted into a random drawing.  Then, four lucky winners would receive four passes each to Golfland SunSplash.

This dictionary quiz sweepstakes contest was inspired as part of News10's Reading Connects campaign which is all about connecting with our community to help improve the literacy rate.

Well, we received over 90 responses, and some people were thoughtful enough to email us a sentence with the word HOOPA in it.  Here are some examples:
