Drexel Center Offering $15,000 Scholarships to Members of Sacramento Area Business Groups

SACRAMENTO – The Drexel Center for Graduate Studies in Sacramento today announced that it will offer three special $15,000 Civic Engagement Scholarships to members of chambers of commerce and civically engaged partners in the Sacramento region.

Drexel University, which is known for innovation and partnering with its community to make a difference, is offering the scholarships as a continuation of its effort to develop the next generation of business, nonprofit and civic leaders whose skills will be of great importance to the future of the Sacramento region.

The $15,000 Civic Engagement Scholarship can be applied to tuition for any of the part-time graduate degree programs offered at the Drexel Center for Graduate Studies in Sacramento.

Scholarship finalists will be notified of a date and time when they will be interviewed by the award committee, which will be comprised of leaders of the Sacramento region’s chambers and civically engaged partners.

Safeway Hosts Healthy Barbecue for California Sixth Grade Winners of International Earth Day Contest

Safeway Inc. will host a barbecue for 84 sixth graders in Sacramento who are winners of the first annual Go Green Glogster Earth Day contest sponsored by Safeway and the Go Green Initiative.

The sixth-grade class from the Leading Edge Academy at Natomas Charter School in Sacramento was chosen as one of the top four classrooms worldwide out of participants from across the United States and 13 countries. Out of 1,525 total entries, 11 students from Leading Edge Academy were chosen as individual prize winners by a panel of judges from across the U.S.

The barbeque is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Leading Edge Academy – 4600 Blackrock Dr. in Sacramento. Photo opportunities include students.

Along with Leading Edge Academy, contest winners include Vinland Elementary School in Poulsbo, Wash. That school won a Safeway organic garden, which will be built and planted in the fall.

“Heron School of Natomas was honored Thursday, May 24 by the California Department of Education for being a high performing school.

The event, hosted by the Sacramento County Office Of Education, recognized the 2012 Distinguished Elementary Schools, the 2012 Title I Academic Achievement Award Schools, and the 2011 National Blue Ribbon Schools.”

Robla School District selects Mr. Bob Crongeyer as Teacher of the Year

At Thursday night's, May 11,2012, school board meeting Mr. Ruben Reyes, Superintendent of Robla School District, announced that Mr. Bob Crongeyer had been selected as the district Teacher of the Year.  This is Mr. Crongeyer's 3rd selection as Teacher of the Year and he expressed his appreciation at being selected from among the many great candidates and the honor that comes with representing the teachers of Robla School District at last night's meeting.

  Mr. Crongeyer, a GATE teacher at Taylor Street Elementary School, was recognized by his colleagues for not only the work that he does with his students, but also for the mentorship that he has provided to staff members.  This year Mr. Crongeyer has been a key figure in launching the Being A Writer program at Taylor Street and facilitated a support group for piloting teachers of the program to discuss progress, celebrate successes and address weaknesses in writing.
