Sacramento Youth Receive Over 500 Backpacks from Assemblymember Roger Dickinson’s Collection Drive

Assemblymember Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento) distributed over 500 backpacks to youth in the Sacramento area at Bannon Creek Elementary School in Natomas this past week. Dickinson’s third annual “Give Back(pack) Drive,” a back-to-school drive to collect backpacks and supplies for kindergarten through 6th grade students in Sacramento ran throughout August. Dickinson, with the help of the Sacramento River Cats’ mascot, Dinger, presented the backpacks at a school assembly.

“I am thankful for all of the generous donations we received from Sacramento area businesses and members of the surrounding community. Every child deserves to have the tools necessary to succeed in school,” said Assemblymember Dickinson (D-Sacramento).

Dozens of local restaurants sign up to fight childhood obesity

Dozens of local restaurants sign up to fight childhood obesity

Nearly five-dozen Sacramento-area restaurants have come together to help fight childhood obesity this September through California Food Literacy Center’s EatSMART fundraising campaign. The campaign, which takes place during Food Literacy Month, adds a voluntary dollar to every restaurant ticket to help children across the region learn food literacy – understanding the impact of food on our health, community and the environment. “This type of campaign has been wildly successful in cities like London and San Francisco, and we are excited to gather Sacramentans together to ensure our children eat smart,” said Peg Tomlinson-Poswall, chair, California Food Literacy Center.  “I can’t think of another time when this many Sacramento-area restaurants have banded together for a single cause.”

ARIA (American Renaissance Institute of Arts) Free Kids Fair

ELK GROVE, CA - Elk Grove and surrounding communities have been overlooked and under-appreciated when it comes to a regional theater and community arts center.

The need for the American Renaissance Institute of Arts is staggering, as community members thirst for arts education and performances ranging from ballet to musicals to theater to orchestral, jazz and ensemble-like performances. The research shows that nothing of this kind has been proposed, or even thought of in the private sector.

This venture was conceived from the ground-up to be self-sustaining, year in and year out without having to depend on money from rich patrons of the arts, without the need for grants, loans or angel investors.
