Nehemiah CEO Scott Syphax To Deliver Commencement Address at  Drexel University in Sacramento

Scott Syphax, the President and CEO of Nehemiah Corporation of America, will deliver the keynote address at Drexel University’s third commencement in Sacramento on Saturday, June 22 at the Crocker Art Museum.

Syphax will also receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree and join about 100 graduating students at the Drexel University Sacramento ceremony at 7 p.m. Drexel Provost Dr. Mark Greenberg will award the degrees at the scenic courtyard location at the Crocker.

Several Sacramento graduates also traveled to Philadelphia last week to participate in Drexel’s 126th Commencement ceremonies at Drexel’s University City Campus.

Syphax, who serves on the Drexel Board of Advisors, lives in Elk Grove and graduated from California State University, Sacramento.

Have you ever wanted to document your life story?  Or learn to write with more skill and style?  Or even see your place in the world from a fresh perspective?  Now is your chance to improve your writing skills and potentially even turn your life stories into published novels and screenplays during a special “Writing from Within” workshop offered by Bernard Selling this Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at the City of West Sacramento Community Center.  

An accomplished writer, director, producer and writing teacher, Selling has a successfully written, produced and directed award-winning documentary and short fiction films based on stories by American authors.

When: 11th May, 2013 !

This is the 4th year that they are having this annual tournament. The teams played 8 am to 6 pm. Total teams participated - 14. Attended people including players families - 250 !.

Railroad Museum Offers "Trains & Tripods" Photo Opportunity & Lighting Seminar

Lights, Camera, Action! 

Back by popular demand, the California State Railroad Museum is proud to host a unique “Trains & Tripods Photo Opportunity & Lighting Seminar” on Friday evening, May 10 and Saturday morning, May 11 (before the Museum opens for the day). 

The two-part program includes an optional seminar on existing light photography and a photographers-only photo session inside the visually-enticing museum before it opens to the public for the day.  

Amateur photographers of all skill levels can choose to attend one or both of the activities. Conducted by former Sacramento Bee photographer and Canon USA consultant Dave Henry, the fast-paced and information-packed lighting seminar is scheduled for Friday evening with the “bring your own tripod” photography opportunity scheduled for Saturday morning.

Space is limited to 50 participants and advance registration for “Trains & Tripods” is required.

'Dinner with a Scientist' helps students choose their futures

Junior high and high school students and their teachers from throughout the Sacramento region will gather tonight for dinner and inspiration for future careers at a “Dinner with a Scientist” event at the Twin Rivers Unified School District offices in North Highlands.

The keynote speaker will be immunologist James Hildreth, dean of the UC Davis College of Biological Sciences, who will discuss his journey to becoming a scientist.

That journey started at Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude in chemistry in 1979. He then went to Oxford University in England as a Rhodes scholar, where he earned a doctorate in immunology in 1982.
