Taylor Street Bears Go to Law School!

The fourth grade students of Taylor Street Elementary School experienced a day in the life of a law student at UC Davis on Friday, January 25th.  The students, who have been meeting with law students from UC Davis' King Hall Pipeline Program throughout the school year at Taylor Street Elementary, were excited to have the opportunity to rejoin their counterparts and experience a day in their lives as college students.  The fourth graders reviewed the achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, met with professors, took a tour of the campus and even participated in a mock trial with the Dean of the School of Law.  The afternoon culminated with students meeting with Keith Statten, a criminal defense attorney in Sacramento who spoke to students about his own experiences and encouraged the students to always follow their dreams.

The law students of the King Hall Pipeline Program, spearheaded by Elise Weinberg and Claire Jacobson, have put a tremendous amount of work in establishing relationships with the students at Taylor Street.  Young faces lit up  as reunited with their UC Davis mentors and during the lunch time conversation with Keith Statten, many students declared that they wanted to be attorneys when they grow up.  Next month the two groups will unite once again to tour a local courthouse and meet with a judge for a Q&A session.
