2014 Weekly Challenge #44: WHO are you Thankful for?

2014 Weekly Challenge #44: WHO are you Thankful for?

Our month of Thanks Giving continues!

Last week, we told the world (ok, Facebook) what we were thankful for.  This week's challenge is about giving thanks to someone who may or may not still be in your life who helped you. You may have never told them, but now is your opportunity.

Our Main Mama Lorri Ann says:  "Mine was Miss Machado, my 8th grade teacher.  She believed in me, and encouraged me as my English teacher to write and express myself. Having a chaotic and painful home life, I looked forward to her words of encouragement to me. She never knew how big an influence she was on my life."

Front Street Shelter's Pet Food Pantry Empty!

The Front Street Animal Shelter provides 3,000 - 5,000 pounds of pet food to pet owners in need every week. Since establishing the program three years ago this is the first time the pantry has been empty. The program is 100% donation based and provides pet food to thousands of Sacramento residents. The resources are available to all Sacramento residents with the goal of helping keeping animals in their original homes and out of the shelter.

If you are interested in donating to the pet pantry program the Front Street Shelter is located at 2127 Front Street Sacramento, CA 95818. Hours of operation: Wednesday - Sunday from 9am - 5pm.

Remember the weekly challenge (and all time FAVORITE), when we had you pick a physical area to de-clutter in your lives? You told me about your cars, closets, and even refrigerators! And you loved the freeing feeling of getting rid of the junk that was draining you of your energy and your time. I think this was close to one of our most popular challenges. Well, this is a de-cluttering of the spirit. An emotional kind of clean-up.

Sacramento Youth Receive Over 500 Backpacks from Assemblymember Roger Dickinson’s Collection Drive

Sacramento Youth Receive Over 500 Backpacks from Assemblymember Roger Dickinson’s Collection Drive

Assemblymember Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento) distributed over 500 backpacks to youth in the Sacramento area at Bannon Creek Elementary School in Natomas this past week. Dickinson’s third annual “Give Back(pack) Drive,” a back-to-school drive to collect backpacks and supplies for kindergarten through 6th grade students in Sacramento ran throughout August. Dickinson, with the help of the Sacramento River Cats’ mascot, Dinger, presented the backpacks at a school assembly.

“I am thankful for all of the generous donations we received from Sacramento area businesses and members of the surrounding community. Every child deserves to have the tools necessary to succeed in school,” said Assemblymember Dickinson (D-Sacramento).
