Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said Mark Friedman, a Sacramento real estate and office project develope,r will be investing in the effort. One of Friedman's Fulcrum Properties is Arden Fair Mall.

Burkle's role limited in Sacramento Kings plan

SACRAMENTO, CA - Due to a potential conflict of interest, investor Ron Burkle's financial participation in the Sacramento Kings "Here We Buy" campaign will strictly be with the development around a downtown sports and entertainment venue and not team ownership or the arena itself.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said Burkle, an owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins who made his fortune in the grocery store business, owns Relativity Media which has contracts with current NBA players and ownership of a team would violate NBA rules.

Micahel Bass, NBA spokesman, stated: "Ron Burkle is no longer part of the Sacramento group because his ownership interest in Relativity Media - which has a division that represents NBA players - would violate NBA rules."

The issue arose during last week's presentation before the league's relocation and finance committees.

Powerball fever hits Sacramento

SACRAMENTO -  Starting Monday morning at 6 a.m., Sacramentans will have a shot at winning massive Powerball jackpots.

Lottery sales help boost business for local store owners like Ken Lo of Lichine's Liquor and Deli, which has a bit of a reputation when it comes to winning tickets.

"It's the luckiest place in Sacramento!" said Lichine's owner, Ken Lo.

People flock to Lichine's for a chance to win big playing the lottery. More than a handful of people have bought winning lottery tickets there, with three mega-jackpot winners coming from the store since 2000.

"I think it's really going to help, because our customers really want this game, they've been waiting a long time for this game, that's all they hear is 'big jackpot,'" said Lo.

California Lottery officials say the state sees a benefit from adding Powerball.

Thumbtack in partnership with Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation asked 8,000 business owners from around the country for their opinions on their local business environment. Only four cities earned an 'F' rating. Two of those cities, San Diego and Sacramento, are in California.

Natomas 6-year-old boy taken to wrong elementary school by bus driver

SACRAMENTO, CA - The mother of a Natomas boy with autism is demanding increased safety procedures after a bus driver dropped her son off at the wrong school.

"Anything could have happened to him," Gina Velez-Balay said. "He could have been hit by a car, it could have been anything. Somebody could have picked him up."

Trystan Hernandez, 6, attends kindergarten at H. Allen Hight Elementary where he is always greeted by a teaching assistant after he is dropped off. But on Tuesday, he was dropped off more than two miles away at Natomas Park Elementary and left all alone.

"I don't know how long he was wandering around before he got into the classroom," Velez- Balay said.

School staff identified him through paperwork in his backpack. Velez-Balay said she only knew about the mix up after an e-mail from Hernandez 's teacher. After making numerous calls, she learned that a different bus driver had taken over Hernandez 's route that day.
