UPDATE: Dog left at airport | News

SACRAMENTO, CA - It isn't clear if a dog found alone at Sacramento International Airport Sunday evening was abandoned or is a stray.

The male dog, which may be a doxie (chihuahua/dacshund) mixed-breed, was found in front of Terminal B around 6:20 p.m., according to airport spokeswoman Laurie Slothower.

When the owner of the dog couldn't be found, Slothower said an airport employee took the dog home and had it vaccinated and checked. The dog is in good health.

The employee is working with animal control organizations to locate the owner.

An abandoned or stray dog shows up at the airport about once a year, according to Slothower.
