Spring-like temperatures bring out mosquitos | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
SACRAMENTO, CA - There are four weeks left of winter, but the spring-like temperatures have people noticing more mosquitos than in years past.
Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District officials say a year ago there were actually more mosquitos in the Sacramento area, but because of the warmer, dryer weather people are spending more time outside this year and noticing the mosquitos.
Crews will be doing additional mosquito trapping, including Elk Grover and Wilton, which were hot spots for West Nile Virus last year.
According to Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District, the first bird of 2012, testing positive for West Nile virus, has been found, which is not unusual considering this winter's dry and warm weather.
The mosquito species that is out in the Sacramento area right now is typically a day-biter and likes to go inside, so keep windows and doors shut.
