FOLSOM, CA - The California electricity grid manager has issued a 'Flex Alert' for Tuesday when electricity demand is forecast to be high as Californians cope with a seventh day of temperatures over 100 degrees.
Last Friday was the season's first Flex Alert and the California Independent System Operator said consumers reduces electricty use by nearly 1,000 megawatts, the equivalent of the output of two large power plants.
Conservation tips
- Turn off unnecessary lights.
- Postpone using appliances until after 6 p.m.
- Turn the air conditioner thermostat up to 78 degrees.
The grid operators expect peak demand on Tuesday to reach 47,500 megawatts.
