Summer Infant Water Safety in Sacramento

Summer Infant Water Safety in Sacramento

With the beginning of summer upon us, thoughts turn to fun in the sun and water.  For infants and toddlers, that can mean tragedy.  In California, drowning is the number one killer of chidren under the age of four, according to the Infant Swimming Resource of Sacramento.

In addition to providing the safest pool environment possible such as constant adult supervision, fences, covers, and alarms, ISR suggests a program of swimming self-rescue lessons as additional prevention to protect children from accidental drownings.  Children as young as 7 months old learn to hold their breath under water, roll onto their backs and float unassisted.  Older children also learn to swim with their head down, roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe and roll over again to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool to crawl out.

These skills are taught by certified instructors to assure that a day

Johnson announces new 'Here We Build' campaign

SACRAMENTO - Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson announced a regional coalition to figure out how to pay for a new sports and entertainment complex.

Johnson said the coalition will be called "Here We Build" after the initial grass roots effort that helped keep the Kings in Sacramento for another year.

The coalition will be composed of 60 state, local politicians and area business leaders and be headed up by State Senators Darrell Steinberg and Ted Gaines.

Johnson again reiterated that Sacramento by itself cannot get a new arena built, which is why the Here We Build coalition is so important.

"When we do it as a region, we're a top 20 TV market, we have 2.1 million people in our metropolitan area," Johnson said.

The mayor also called the next 100 days critical in getting a deal for a new arena done and hopes to have a financial plan in place by November at the latest.
