Railroad Museum Gets in the Jazzy Spirit With Music Aboard Trains & More!

Coinciding with the 40th Anniversary Sacramento Music Festival happening over Memorial Day weekend in Old Sacramento, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum will celebrate the holiday by offering jazz musicians performing inside the Railroad Museum, aboard popular weekend excursion train rides and even complimentary admission to event badge holders. With several music venues located in close proximity and a special free Children’s Stage and activity area just outside, a visit to the Railroad Museum extends the weekend enjoyment for all ages.

Inside the Museum, visitors will be treated to live entertainment in the Roundhouse performed by various banjo musicians all four days as follows:   Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  In addition, live musical performances will be available in the Museum Theater on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day.

Bring the whole family, and treat the mom in your life with a trip to the Zoo! The American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) is hosting their fourth annual Missing Orangutan Mother’s (M.O.M.) Day book and bake sale on Saturday, May 12 from 9 am to 3 pm at the orangutan exhibit.
This event brings public awareness to the plight of orangutans in the wild and how they are excellent mothers.  All of the baked goods are palm oil free and the proceeds will support orphaned wild orangutans.    By participating, you’re not making a mom feel special, you’re contributing to an excellent cause.  There will be activities for kids, treats given to the orangutans throughout the day and a display of paintings made by our very own Zoo animals!  Hope to see you out there! ... Known for their hard-rocking, blues-based and guitar-driven music that really energizes a crowd, the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will headline the first night of the 40th Anniversary Sacramento Music Festival that opens on Friday, May 24.  Music enthusiasts from near and far will spend Memorial Day Weekend celebrating four decades of amazing world-class musical entertainment taking place on 24 venues throughout Sacramento.

Complete with a high-energy Friday night kick-off by the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band  and a vibrant Saturday morning parade, the musical celebration will also showcase live musical performances by Los Lobos, Ben Taylor, The Blasters, John Lee Hooker, Jr., The James Hunter Six, Wanda Jackson, Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks, James Garner’s Cash Tribute, The Rhythm Vandals, The Beer Dawgs, Jimmy Pailer, The Kyle Rowland Band, and many more!
