Americana Celebration in Old Sacramento Over Labor Day Weekend

Come one, come all!  An “Americana in Old Sacramento” celebration awaits visitors to the popular historic district over Labor Day weekend complete with free live music, classic cars and vintage vehicles -- such as 1950s-era buses, emergency vehicles and taxi cabs. In addition, a variety of special evening events and various museum-related activities are planned for the extended holiday weekend. 

With the support of involved city leaders and in collaboration with the Old Sacramento Business Association (OSBA), California State Parks and the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation (HOSF), the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau (SCVB) has announced a festive, fun and full line-up of Labor Day weekend activities in Old Sacramento.

Sutter's Fort to Commemorate 175 Years on August 16!

On Saturday, August 16, 2014, California State Parks and Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) will present a special “Hands on History” event commemorating John Sutter’s arrival to the Sacramento region 175 years ago that led to the building of Sutter’s Fort, the discovery of gold and the founding of the City of Sacramento.  As background, John Sutter landed on the bank of the American River in August of 1839 and went on to found the New Helvetia area on which Sutter’s Fort was later constructed.

Railroad Museum Celebrates 10 Years of Small Wonders Exhibit and Names August as Toy Train Month

California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum are proud to recognize August 2014 as Toy Train Month in celebration of 10 years of the popular Small Wonders: The Magic of Toy Trains exhibit that first debuted in 2004.  With various toy train related activities happening throughout the month, special gallery tours and lectures will be available on Saturday, August 23, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
