SACRAMENTO, CA - A 4-year-old boy was placed in protective services Sunday after he was allegedly punched by his mother's boyfriend.
The incident took place on the 600 block of Plaza Avenue at approximately 3:36 p.m., according to police. The child was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries, they said.
The boyfriend, Joe Weaver, 30, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse.
Officer Michele Gigante said the mother was arrested, too, for child endangerment. Responding officers reported they found rotting food, dirty diapers, garbage and animal feces in the apartment where Mendoza and her son live.
Child Protective Services is investigating the situation, Gigante said.
