Suspected armed man barricaded in Rio Linda home

RIO LINDA, Calif. - Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies are surrounding a home on Lilac Ln. in Rio Linda Wednesday morning, after a man inside claimed to have shot and killed his roommate, according to deputies.

Sergeant Jason Ramos said the Sheriff's Dept. received the call from the man just after 5:30 a.m.

Authorities on scene have been able to establish intermittent contact with the man.

Residents in neighboring homes have been advised to remain in their homes, said Ramos.

Man accused of DUI in fatal Northgate Blvd. crash

SACRAMENTO, CA - An arrest has been made in a Sunday early morning crash in which a passenger died.

Christopher Lee Daniels, 29, of Sacramento, was ejected when the car in he was in drifted off of Northgate Boulevard south of West Stadium Lane and ran into a tree, splitting in half, said Officer Lizz Dutton with the California Highway Patrol. Daniels was ejected from the 2010 black Chevrolet Camaro. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Dutton said the man behind the wheel, Sir Von Church, 33, of Fairfield, suffered minor injuries and was treated at an area hospital. Upon Church's release, Dutton said he was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, felony driving under the influence, and driving on a suspended driver's license. Church was booked into Sacramento County Jail.

Feds: Man smuggled 15 lbs. of meth into Sac Int'l. Airport

SACRAMENTO, CA - Federal agents arrested a Mexican national at Sacramento International Airport Friday on suspicion of  smuggling 15 pounds of methamphetamine through customs.

A Department of Homeland Security affidavit says Carlos Alberto Torres-Eurafacio was traveling from Guadalajara to Sacramento with a valid Mexican passport and a 15-day visa.

The complaint says Torres-Eurafacio was going through customs at SMF with two wooden carts. When agents ran the carts through an x-ray machine, they noticed a number of anomalies in the wood.

Agents drilled into one of the wood panels and found the drill bit coated in white powder.

According to the complaint, customs agents dismantled the cart and found methamphetamine stashed inside the carts' wood panels.

Suspect wanted in North Sacramento armed robbery

SACRAMENTO, CA - Police search for a man who robbed pay day loans business in North Sacramento Friday morning.

The man entered the Advance America on the 1500 block of West El Camino around 10:30 a.m. and threatened the clerk with a handgun, the Sacramento Police Department said.

The suspect ordered the victim to give him money and then demanded to be let into the safe. He then stole money in the safe and then ran away from the scene.

Police said the man was captured on surveillance video at the business. He is described as a black man in his 20s, 5'8" tall, weighing 140 to 150 pounds, with a thin mustache. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, white athletic shoes and a black ball cap with a possible Adidas logo.

Police: Burglar pretends to be sleeping

NATOMAS, Calif. - A 26-year-old man tried to convince police he was simply taking a nap when officers located him inside a Natomas restaurant Tuesday morning.

According to a Sacramento police report, an employee at the restaurant on the 2300 block of Northgate Blvd. called police after hearing a repetitive, loud banging that sounded as though someone was trying to break into the business.

Officers responded at 12:54 a.m. and set up a perimeter before entering the restaurant. Upon entry, Julio Basquez was found pretending to be asleep, said police.

An ensuing investigation revealed Basquez had broken into the vacant, adjoining business, then entered the restaurant through a shared wall, police said.

Police also discovered Basquez had moved several items to the back door prior to being caught, according to the report.

Basquez was taken into custody for burglary and outstanding warrants without incident.

Sacramento ex-cop sentenced for falsified reports

SACRAMENTO, CA - A former Sacramento police officer was sentenced to five years in state prison with suspended execution Friday for falsifying police reports.

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Patrick Marlette ordered Brandon Mullock, 28, to serve formal felony probation with one year in county jail.

Mullock's actions forced the Sacramento County District Attorney's Offices to dismiss 79 cases, most of them DUI arrests. There had been convictions in 73 of the cases, said D.A. spokesperson Shelly Orio, and they were set aside.

Mullock previously pleaded no contest to four felony charges: three counts of filing false police reports and one count of perjury as part of a plea deal.
