PHOTOS: Shot fired into Natomas teenage boy's bedroom while he slept

SACRAMENTO, CA - A Natomas man woke up Saturday morning to a shocking reality; someone had shot a bullet through his 12 year old son's bedroom window.

PHOTOS: Bullet holes and bullet

The incident occurred some time between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.

Aaron Barhart said he found the bullet five feet from where his son slept.

He said he had heard a gunshot when it happened, got up to check his four sons, and when all was well, he went back to bed.  He hadn't realized what happened until the light of day, when he saw the bullet hole in the window and wall and the bullet lying on the floor.

Barhart told News10 that he called 911 and was told that there weren't enough police to come out and investigate. He added that they told him to bring the bullet to them.

Veteran News10 reporter Karen Massie resigns

SACRAMENTO, CA - News10 said goodbye to veteran reporter Karen Massie on Friday.

Karen worked for News10 for more than 25 years. She came aboard as the weekend anchor with George Warren.

Karen covered many stories with the station.

"My most memorable one is when they started shooting at me at the L.A. riots," Karen said.

She was the education reporter for News10 and was honored with several awards for a series of reports about race and education.

"Off-camera, teachers would talk about this issue, but getting them to talk about the issue on-camera was very difficult because they were afraid of being racist," Karen said. "I talked to students about getting grief for speaking properly or asking the teacher for extra help, but I was able to talk to them. We were finally able to get the hurtful feelings and the peer pressure on-camera. I was real proud to do that. "

When the tooth fairy forgets, moms unite

When the tooth fairy forgets, moms unite

A couple of weeks ago, I confessed on facebook how the tooth fairy forgot to visit my son. And, this wasn’t the first time. In all fairness to the hard working tooth fairy, this was Big Brother’s 8th baby tooth to be whisked away in the midnight hours and on that particular night…the tooth fairy slept through her midnight rounds.

I felt horrible, especially since my proud 6 year old had carefully written the tooth fairy a note about his special tooth…the eighth one.

That morning, the mom guilt was winning. So when I posted this as my status:

Sooo…the “Tooth Fairy” forgot to visit Big Brother last night. You know, I never missed a day moving that darn Elf on the Shelf, and THIS I forget!

I was secretly hoping for some moral support.

Report: Natomas school district has 'culture of entitlement'

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Natomas Unified School District Board voted to act on a highly-critical report it commissioned that described a "culture of entitlement" at the district and called for management reforms and a "top down focus" on students.

Natomas Unified Interim Superintendent Walt Hanline said the district is not in crisis, but that the report highlights a sweeping need to reform the organization and operation of the district.

"I think it's more of a district that needs to catch up to the realities that it needs to invest in it's students, focus on investing in students and become more efficient and effective," Hanline said.

The $80,000 report by School Services Inc., a private consulting firm, describes a district that's technologically behind and that has to stop a revolving door of top managers.
