Investigation: Natomas teacher kicks student?

SACRAMENTO, CA - A Natomas special education teacher is under investigation by district officials for allegedly kicking a 13-year-old student in the leg during a field trip.

Evelyn Miller suffers from severe autism. She now has bruises from an outing to a fast food restaurant last Friday where the kicking incident allegedly happened.

"We got a call from the school saying that Evelyn got kicked but they didn't say by whom," Evelyn's dad Damian Miller said.

Damian Miller said the principal at Heron Middle School revealed days later that Evelyn's teacher was allegedly responsible for kicking her on that outing.

The school removed the teacher from the classroom and placed her on administrative leave pending an investigation.

"We trust our teachers to protect our kids, not harm or kick them, " Evelyn's mom Angie Miller said.

The Miller family filed a police report this week. No charges have been filed.

Despite the extraordinary increase in adoptions at the end of the year, countless dogs and cats sit waiting for new homes.  All are stray or surrendered by their owners.

Regardless of requests for help from rescue organizations, the supply exceeds the demand or capacity.  Rescue partners are working feverishly to assist in saving the animals, but the real solution lies with our community.

Good news for Natomas Schools

Good news for Natomas Schools

The news from the interim NISD Superintendent is great for kids I think, with  class size from K-2 going down to 24, 30 kids per class starting in third grade and high schools a few more.

That sure beats current sizes that include 32 in some kindergartners and 34 in second grade!

I like to share the good news too-sometimes it seems just the bad about Natomas shares the spotlight!

Ready or not, Smart still hints at changes with Kings

SACRAMENTO, CA - After a 1-4 road trip concluded on Monday with a 99-86 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kings head coach Keith Smart said he'd have a lot to think about on the flight back to Sacramento.

When asked after Monday's game if he was considering lineup changes, Smart said he was at that point.

"I can't keep waiting for guys to play great and play good because the season is too short - you can get out of the hunt pretty quick," Smart said. "It's a long flight back and I've got to do something, because right now, this is not working for our basketball team."

Back in Sacramento on Tuesday afternoon, Smart lightened up a bit from that previous response.

"I have to be patient, myself," Smart said, whose team is 4-10 overall and the youngest in the NBA. "I want this thing to turn around right away, right now, but I also know I didn't take over the World Champions.

Tuesday freeze breaks, ties 5 record lows across valley

SACRAMENTO - Sacramento officially tied a 49-year-old record Tuesday morning when the Sacramento Executive Airport dropped to 24 degrees.  That matched the temperature observed on January 17, 1963.

Other new record lows Tuesday morning included Redding with 18 degrees (old record 24 in 1910), Red Bluff with 20 degrees (old record 20 in 1888), Stockton with 22 degrees (old record 23 in 1963), and Modesto with 23 (old record 25 in 1987).

Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing again early Wednesday morning and valley residents are encouraged to take the necessary precautions again including keeping sprinkler systems shut off and covering plants and fruit trees.
