Girl busts burglars while alone in Natomas home

NATOMAS, CA - A 12-year-old girl found herself in a real life "Home Alone" situation when two armed burglars broke into her house Friday morning.

Karsten Daniels had the day off from school for a long Presidents' Day weekend, but her parents, who work at different schools, had to go to work and leave her alone for the day.

Daniels planned to sleep-in, but she woke up when she heard the two male burglars breaking through the downstairs window.

Police said one burglar climbed through the window and then let his partner in through the sliding glass door.

"I was standing behind the door, texting my dad, 'I think someone broke in. I don't know what to do. I'm scared out of my mind,'" said Karsten, who knew she had to be quiet.

She turned the volume down on her phone and quietly closed her bedroom door.

Arrest made in burning death of Discovery Park woman

SACRAMENTO, CA - Robert Thompson, 36, was arrested by Sacramento police on Thursday for the suspected murder and burning of the woman whose body was found in Discovery Park on Tuesday.

The woman's body was discovered after a passing cyclist reported a pile of leaves burning in the park to the Sacramento Fire Dept. Upon extinguishing the flames, firefighters found the woman's charred body.

Sgt. Andrew Pettit of the Sacramento Police Dept. said Thompson's relationship with the woman could not be determined until she was successfully identified.

Officer Laura Peck later confirmed that Thompson is a registered sex offender but the crime he committed does not require public disclosure on his status on the Megan's Law page.  Peck said, the only reason Thompson's history as a sex offender was made public is because he was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender in Sacramento.

According to the HawaiiNewsNow.com, Gladys Kupuwai and Estelle Green say their dogs suffered injuries during grooming at the pet store.

Kupuwai claimed she dropped off her granddaughter's dog, Dodo, for a bit of primping, but when she picked up the pooch, she noticed the groomers had taken a little too much off the top.

"[She] was dried, bloody, was dry blood, everything," Kapuwai told HawaiiNewsnow.com. "I noticed that at home, so when I took her to the vet, the doctor had told me it looked like they tried to glue it back."

Green claims her dog also suffered at the hands of over exuberant clippers, returning home with bloody nails and piece of its tail missing.
