Kings players, coaches buzz about new arena

SACRAMENTO, CA - News that the principals involved in bringing a new arena to Sacramento had agreed to a financing plan reached the Sacramento Kings in the team's practice facility.

As the team regrouped at the team's practice facility for the first time after this past weekend's All-Star break, the arena topic was a hot one among the players.

"I just know that we're staying in Sacramento," said rookie guard Isaiah Thomas, a native of Tacoma, who watched his favorite team the Super Sonics leave Seattle just years ago. "I'm very happy. The community, the fans, the organization's brought me in like a warm feeling - like a family feeling and I'm just happy to be able to be here for years to come."

Kings fans give Johnson a hero's welcome

SACRAMENTO, CA - Lots of Kings fans wanted to say "Thank You" to Mayor Kevin Johnson for what he has done so far for the arena deal.

About 50 fans turned out Monday night to Sacramento International Airport. They sported their purple jerseys, waved their signs and greeted the mayor with a chorus of cheers.

The mayor and the ThinkBigSacramento team returned home from arena negotiations with the league at the NBA All Star game in Orlando.

He thanked many of the fans on his way out of the airport.

Meanwhile, Councilman Rob Fong shared this statement Monday night:

"The tentative agreement with the Kings is a necessary step toward financing and building a new arena. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are so much closer now to making this happen."
